LINGUISTIC PROJECTION: POLEMIC NOTES

Background. Globalizing world community needs a common linguistic code for intercultural communication in the common communicative and cognitive environment. Interlinguistics has been continually trying to come up with an alternative way of resolving a major human task – to project a universal communication tool to meet the needs of the multinational and multicultural world. It is important to study his-torical development of the common language idea as it may help researching problems of social manageability of language, possibility of optimization of international communication and forecasting and world linguistic dynamics.
Materials and methods. The descriptive and comparative methods helped to analyze functional and structural aspects of artificial international codes, find out typological similarities and differences in them, critically analyze the basic interlinguistic principles underlying purposeful manipulation of linguistic material in order to create a code with prespecified characterictics.
Results. The principles of versatility, rationality, consistency, ethnical and cultural neutrality determine functional deficiency of artificial communicative codes. So far speakers of national languages haven’t received a sufficient stimulus to begin using an artificial language system instead of their national languages. The expediency of replacement of human languages with an artificial auxiliary code is doubtful in the present-day world as well as in the long-term prospect.
Conclusions. The logic of interlinguistic projection and construction, the analysis of the processes of socialization, functioning and evolutionary dynamics of artificial auxiliary languages help to conclude that the prospect of an artificial language to fulfil the auxiliary international communicative function is small.
